Versatile rucksack
Deuter Freerider 30
A sports rucksack
for photographers
Deuter Freerider 30
I have no business relationship with Deuter and have written this review based on my own experience. The Deuter Freerider 30 sports backpack is a versatile companion for travellers, adventurers and everyday users alike.
Not just for skiers
The Deuter Freerider 30 is not only an excellent rucksack for winter sports enthusiasts, but also an excellent choice for photographers who are out and about in nature. Here are the main advantages that this rucksack offers specifically for photographers.
Design and comfort
Storage space and organisation
With a volume of 30 litres, the Freerider 30 offers plenty of space for camera equipment and personal accessories. The rucksack weighs around 1 kg. The main compartment is spacious and easy to pack and unpack thanks to the wide-opening zips. There is also access from the back compartment, which is brilliant. In combination with a separate camera bag, such as those from Tatonka or Peakdesign, you essentially have a camera backpack with the functionality of a sports backpack. This allows quick access to your camera and accessories, which is very practical for spontaneous snapshots and quick lens changes. In addition, there are numerous compartments and pockets that allow you to organise your memory cards, batteries, filters and other small items.
Protection and safety
The rucksack is robust and offers good protection for sensitive photographic equipment. The padding is thick enough to protect your camera and lenses from shocks. The separate safety compartment, originally designed for avalanche equipment, is particularly practical for photographers. This compartment is ideal for your laptop.
functionality
The Deuter Freerider 30 is equipped with several attachment options that are very useful for photographers. The ski mounts on the side and the snowboard mount at the front can easily be used to carry tripods or large telephoto lenses. Ice axe and pole attachments are also versatile and can be used to attach other photography accessories. The hydration system compatibility is an additional advantage, ensuring sufficient hydration on long photography trips.
Durability and workmanship
The high-quality workmanship and robust materials make the Freerider 30 a durable companion that can withstand even harsh conditions. The zips are sturdy and easy to use, even in cold weather. After several outdoor uses, the rucksack shows no significant signs of wear, which underlines its durability.
opportunities for improvement
While the Freerider 30 already offers many advantages for photographers, a few additional features could improve it even further. A removable camera bag inside the rucksack would further increase the protection of the equipment and make it easier to access. The option of removing the hip belt would also be desirable in order to be able to use the rucksack flexibly for different scenarios.
