World trip packing list for photographer

The ultimate world trip packing list

I want to talk about a topic that should be of particular interest to photographers and travel enthusiasts: the ultimate world travel packing list for photographers. Whether you’re an amateur photographer looking to capture your adventures or a professional photographer exploring the world, this packing list will help you make sure you’re ready for every shot.

I have divided the luggage into large luggage and hand luggage. For short trips, hand luggage is certainly sufficient, but for a trip around the world with possibly several climate zones, this will be very tight. Hand luggage is practical as you don’t have to check in your sensitive camera equipment.

The total amount of clothing and technology does weigh quite a bit, so I have placed particular emphasis on lightweight equipment.

The big luggage

My big piece of luggage is the Vaude Mundo 50 backpack.

Vaude Mundo 50

This extremely useful bag can be used as a backpack with padded straps or as a travel bag with handles. It can be accessed in the same way as a suitcase, as the bag can be opened. The backpack comes with a mini backpack that you can strap to the front when carrying (carry on). The Vaude Mundo 50 weighs around 1.8 kg and is very dimensionally stable thanks to a built-in frame (which can be removed). Another highlight is the generous laptop pocket in the front area. The backpack straps can be stowed under a cover for use on the plane. The backpack is available in green or black.

For me, the best thing about the bag is that it can be accessed like a suitcase.

You can find the extremely useful backpack HERE.

The hand luggage

Your hand luggage contains all your photography equipment and all other important technical items. A lightweight laptop is recommended for post-processing.

Backpack

I opted for the Deuter Freerider 30 backpack and am very happy with my choice.

The backpack is very light (1kg) and offers access from the back.

I also fitted the rucksack with this camera inlay: Tatonka Camera Inlet.

The inlay (290g) is robust and fits perfectly into the rucksack,

Compared to the normal camera backpacks, this combination is lighter and extremely functional.

Photographic equipment

The choice and combination of cameras and lenses is infinite. However, weight and size limit the choice. Depending on your preferences, the decision may therefore be different.

The Sony Alpha 7C II is the ideal travel camera for me, as with its 33 MP it doesn’t produce images that are too large like the R variants and is easy on your memory.

For my decision, astro (Sony 14 GM 1.8), people and landscapes (Sigma 28-70 2.8) and wildlife (Tamron 70-300 4.5-6.3) were important to me.

Action Cam

The GoPro Hero 12 is a small and powerful action camera for underwater recordings and sporting activities.

The underwater housing is important if you want to dive deeper than 10 meters.

Drohne

The DJI Mini 4 Pro is the ultimate travel drone. Due to its 249g, it is not subject to any restrictions in many countries. It also puts less strain on your shoulders than other heavier drones. The Mini 4 is class C 0 and does not require a drone license. Just remember to take out worldwide drone liability insurance and find out about the country you are traveling to beforehand.

HERE you can find more information about drone laws in other countries.

Laptop

I wanted a powerful laptop with a long battery life and low weight. Despite my long history of using Windows computers, I decided on a MacBook Air (approx. 1.3 kg). The performance is ideal for Lightroom, Photoshop and even DaVinci Resolve. I recommend this case for protection.

To expand the limited memory, I have the lightweight and robust Samsung T7 Shield SSD with me,

Zubehör

  • Bellows against dust
  • 6 in 1 charging cable
  • Sensor cleaning brush for emergencies
  • Microfiber cleaning cloth
